Feature Request

kateliroe

I'm not sure if there is a way for this to be possible, but I wanted to toss this into the ring:

  • If we have made custom activities, is there a way for those to be added as columns from the Animal workspace?

I have two, 'Water Plants' and 'Refill Misting Machines' and I would love for those to be able to be displayed so the table would show the last date those activities were performed on.

And apologies in advance if this is something you guys are in the process of doing, I may be jumping ahead!

No need to apologize, this is exactly the kind of request the team wants to hear. Having a custom activity like "Water Plants" or "Refill Misting Machines" show up as a column with its last performed date makes a lot of sense, since for recurring upkeep like that you mostly just want to see at a glance how long it's been.

I can't say whether it's already planned, but I'll make sure it gets passed along. One detail that would help: would you want every custom activity to get its own column automatically, or would you rather choose which ones appear in the table?

"recurring upkeep like that you mostly just want to see at a glance how long it's been" EXACTLY

I think as a 'future-proofed-concept' probably letting the user have the choice of whether the custom activity is displayed is probably best.

I know me personally, if there are columns that I don't plan on using, and I can't remove those from view, it drives me crazy, though some would argue it's a short drive, lol.

So to give you the cut and dried answer, let us choose if the column/activity is displayed.

To add on to this thought, I got to playing around with the status indicators today. I saw where I can set up a color-coded dot/symbol if it has been X days since 'being cleaned'. Piggy-backing on this function, I'd love if there was a way to also use those custom activities in the status indicator section as well. Ex. If it has been X days (10) since watering the plants, show a (blue) dot next to that animal.

I'm not sure what the level of effort for that is if it is a custom field versus a system field... I'm not sure if y'all would be willing to add any new activity types, I know y'all already have so so many, but it's honestly great. But maybe even adding two types specifically for Live Plant care/maintenance and one for Misting Machine refill/maintenance? I know I am not the only one out here attempting to keep track of that.

I have set up the indicators! Very glad to see that go live. If I notice anything strange about their behaviour, I'll let y'all know :)

One other thing, related to the custom activity columns in the animal workspace... I have added 'Refilled Misting Machines' and 'Water Plants' to my table view, and I have added events of both types to the appropriate animal, however I am not seeing any activity populate in the table. I did create fields on both activities to see if that would pull in the values, but that did not work.

If you could open a bug report on this one, that would be great. Thank you!
